R2 Solutions releases guidance document

R2 Solutions releases guidance document

R2 Solutions and Greeneye Partners have released a new guidance document intended to help companies conform to the new R2:2013 standard.

The 58-page guidance document provides best practices on how facilities can implement the principles described in the R2:2013 certification, as well as clarifications and standard interpretations of the language in the certification. For example, the guidance document specifically states that R2 certification is facility-specific, a mention that is a direct response to the growing concern that some processors obtain R2 certification at one facility and claim to be an "R2 processor" while their other processing facilities do not meet the standards of the certification.

U.S. Isn’t Flooding the Third World With E-Waste

U.S. Isn’t Flooding the Third World With E-Waste

“By Adam Minter - May 26, 2013

Some is recycled; some is repaired and refurbished for reuse; and some is thrown into landfills or incinerators. Almost none of it, however, is “dumped” overseas.

That, at least, is the conclusion of the first comprehensive survey of what happens to U.S. e-waste after it is dropped into a recycling bin. Published in February, the study by the U.S. International Trade Commission surveyed 5,200 businesses involved in the e-waste industry (companies that received the survey were required by law to complete it, and to do so accurately), and found that almost 83 percent of what was put into American recycling bins in 2011 was repaired, dismantled or recycled domestically.

Ensuring Data Stays Destroyed

Ensuring Data Stays Destroyed

Today, data security is a main concern whenever any company or citizen is retiring their old IT equipment. Formatting the hard drive may seem like enough to some, but there are people who dedicate their time and efforts to recovering that information, which is easier than you think.

That is why you should always make sure that, when recycling any electronics with data storage devices, you recycle with an electronics recycler with the necessary certifications. The R2 Certification is not only dedicated to ensuring electronics are appropriately recycled, but there is much consideration given to data security. All companies obtaining the R2 Certification undergo a rigorous data security audit to ensure that their standards are up-to-date with current industry standards.

The weather is just right?

The weather is just right?

I have lived in Ohio most of my life and cannot recall a time when the weather has been so sporadic. Moving to Columbus from the Cleveland area came with a vast improving on the weather conditions. I explain northern Ohio weather with terms like lake effect, and snow storms, and extreme cold. So far this year I believe that I have witnessed the strangest weather of my 33 years. Some days are warm and some cold. I believe that every Ohioan can agree that this winter season only strengthens our claim for the strangest weather in the United States.
